Glen Men take victories in the Donegal International Rally
Huge Congratulations to the Glenswilly men Manus (Mandy) Kelly and Damian Gallagher on their success at the weekend in the Donegal International Rally. Our Donegal GAA team failed to reach the Ulster final, but it was a different story in the Joule Donegal International rally with victories in the international and National by Donegal driver making this one of the tightest fought battles in the history of the event.
Manus (Mandy) Kelly and Donall Barett in the Impreza fought tooth and nail with Frosses man Donagh Kelly in his Focus from the Friday morning, Donagh held a lead of single digits for most of the weekend until Sunday when Manus took the lead on Sunday afternoon only to lose it again to Donagh, but that was not the end of the nail biting drama, unfortunately Donagh hit a bump too hard and sustained a puncture and other damage forcing him to retire on the second last stage, This meant Manus could ease back on the last stage taking victory for the second year in a row.
It was much the same in the National class, Damian Gallagher and Mac Walsh in the Ford Escort MK11 battled with the Arada man Declan Gallagher (Milkman) and John McCarthy in their Toyota Starlet switching leads over the weekend but it was Glenswillly man Damian that came out on top, winning his first Donegal rally.
