What Are Porcelain Hearths?
Porcelain slabs are large-format, sintered ceramic surfaces made from natural raw materials like clay, quartz, and feldspar. These materials are compacted under high pressure and fired at very high temperatures (over 1200°C), resulting in an extremely dense, durable material.
Why Use Porcelain for Hearths?
1. Heat Resistance
-
Both Infinity and Dekton can withstand extreme temperatures without cracking, discolouring, or degrading—making them ideal for use around wood-burning stoves, gas fires, or electric fires.
2. Zero Expansion Joints Required
-
Unlike natural stone, porcelain does not require expansion joints in hearth applications. This means it can be installed as a single slab, offering a clean, seamless appearance.
3. Scratch & Stain Resistant
-
Extremely hard-wearing and resistant to scratching, even from logs or stove feet.
-
Non-porous surface resists stains from soot, ash, or spillages—no sealing required.
4. Lightweight & Versatile
-
Available in thinner profiles (e.g. 6mm or 12mm) which reduce weight without compromising strength.
-
Can be used on floors, walls, hearths, back panels, and even custom-built surrounds.
5. Aesthetic Range
-
Offers a wide variety of looks—from marble, slate, and granite effects to modern concrete or industrial metal finishes.
-
Provides consistency in colour and pattern across slabs, unlike natural stone which varies.
