A Brief History of Spratt Fireplaces

Spratt Fireplaces was founded by Henry & Bridie Spratt in early 1985 out of the need for a fireplace in the new family home. Henry had been involved in the building industry for many years in Ireland and the UK, So decided to put his skills to use and to make his own Fireplace for our new home. Orders started coming from relatives, friends and soon word of mouth spread. As a result the company “H Spratt Fireplaces” was born. The first showroom was a room adjoined to the family home, with Bridie tending to customers while caring for myself (No.3) and three other siblings, Henry was in control of manufacturing and installations. It soon out grew its humble beginnings & the building which we are in today began life. The building has subsequently increased in size to keep up with the business and is still growing to this day. Most recently our granite processing machinery, and extra warehouse space was erected, and again further expansion is in the pipeline with plans for a new state of the art showroom and factory coming soon.

In 2013 Henry and Bridie retired and the company was handed over to myself (Jim). I had has worked in the company from a very young age during summer holiday’s, weekend etc. as a lot of family members do in family owned business, in 1997 I started a full time position installing fireplaces with my father. This soon lead to me taking on all installs and gaining a wealth of knowledge from everything fireplace and stove related.

My main ethos has been to maintain the existing core values of the company set down by my father and mother, providing high quality fireplaces and stoves throughout Donegal and Ireland. In the last decade we have expanded into the stove and Electric fire market and are now one of the largest retailers in Ireland, stocking major brands such as Morso, Stovax, Stratford, Spartherm, Evonic, Dimplex and many more. We are also specialists in bespoke solid fuel, gas and electric fire feature wall installs.

I always aspired too one day run the company, ( As I wasn’t made for school) but I admit that my Father and Mother have proved a tough act to follow. The core values remain the same as when the company started, that is to provide the best service possible with a personal touch. The best advice my father drummed into me from a young age and probably the most import advice he gave me while working in a customers home was to !! leave it as tidy as you found it.!!
