We supply a wide range of stove hearths, available both pre-made and made to order, in Honed and Polished Granite, Slate, and Porcelain.
Choosing the Right Hearth
Material
-
Granite – Our most popular choice. Polished Granite is number one for a sleek finish, while Honed Granite offers a more subtle look. Please note: if your stove has very low legs or if your hearth exceeds 1m in length, an expansion joint may be required to prevent cracking.
-
Porcelain – Increasingly popular due to its durability. Porcelain is completely stain resistant and, unlike Granite, does not require an expansion joint. This means your hearth can be made in one seamless piece, regardless of size.
Size
It’s important to leave the correct clearance around your stove:
-
Front – A minimum of 225mm from the front of the stove to the front of the hearth is required if you have a wooden floor or carpet. If you have space, we recommend allowing more.
-
Sides – A minimum of 150mm each side.
-
Back – Can range from 50mm to 300mm depending on your stove manufacturer’s recommendations.
Height
-
Granite – Standard thickness is 20mm, with 30mm available (stock dependent).
-
Porcelain – Available in 12mm and 20mm. Please note thickness when ordering.
-
To achieve a raised hearth, an upstand can be used beneath the slab (with a 10mm overhang), or the edges can be mitred to create the look of a solid piece (recommended for Porcelain).
-
The industry standard height is 70mm, typically achieved by filling beneath the slab with lightweight concrete during installation.
